001 An Introduction to Motherhood Muses
Your bi-weekly source of inspiration as we navigate the journey of motherhood. Think chicken soup for "mommy brain".
So as I aimlessly stroll around Tribeca, New York trying to get my 11 week old baby to sleep, I think about everything I need to get done. To name but a few…
Order more Coterie diapers
Call British Airways to request a bassinet
Buy a new outfit for an upcoming wedding (and take back the dress that looked terrible)
Decide if I’m going to confirm as producer on a client photoshoot next week
Pitch a new client for their 2025 marketing plan
Respond to the new mom group about a time for a meet up
FaceTime my Grandma (and mum, and sister, and mother-in-law)
Speak to my Ob/Gyn about what contraception option I should go for
Book a workout class that is non-cancellable so that I commit
Now, I’m a planner at heart. I have managed large-scale projects for clients such as Tiffany & Co, Bobbi Brown, Netflix and more. The point here isn’t that I feel overwhelmed by all the tasks I need to do. Rather, what strikes me in this moment is that I’m thinking about all my to-do’s and haven’t even noticed that my baby has fallen asleep. A precious moment of serenity and bonding which I’m missing by tracking admin.
Have I been treating motherhood as another client project? While my mind operates a million miles per hour, how do I lean into this new life as a mother? Is being on auto-pilot stopping me from feeling all the feels? How can I be thoughtful and intentional about how this time shapes and evolves me as a person?
This newsletter exists as a response to just that. A place where we move out of the practical and into the inspirational. Beyond endless advice and tips and tricks related to your baby and into a space where the focus is on you.
I’ll be musing over questions, thoughts, Q&As, articles, culture, and experiences that helps engage another area of your brain that isn’t just thinking about when the next feed is. A moment of ‘me-time’.
This will thrive on community contributions and so if you’d like to join in helping inspire new mothers, please send me a message with thoughts, ideas and feedback.
Amazing!
We used to have a kind of support group - 10 before 10 - and we’d celebrate 10 things we already did before 10am, which would usually include things like pulling the toothbrush out of the toilet or cleaning broken glass. I love this musing already; sending you love.
